What I want to discuss as an artist is "life" and the "reality" we carry within ourselves.
Life is what a corpse doesn't have. You and I carry it with us all our life. It's hidden, but it's real.

I try hard to eliminate shapes or ideas that pertain to the physical world.
By doing so I hope to refer you to your inner world, where resides our reality.

You won't find trees or clouds or houses or faces in my paintings. If you do, you aren't seeing the painting.
You are seeing what your mind is creating.   One is a trap.  The other is a mirror

This image is a fusion of three slides from my photography days.
One of tree branches, one of autumn leaves, and one of river rocks.

I had discovered that by putting two or more slides together and re-photographing them,
I could present more than one idea, in the same space, at the same time.

This can be powerful, because of the implications it provokes, much as words do in poetry.
My friend JoAnn Dahill owns one of my earliest and best experiments that I did in the 80s.

                                     like most of my paintings
this one started as a watercolor wash
on a dripping wet kitchen paper-towel

the lines and shapes were created seperately with a pencil
                                    and inverted to white

most of the texture came from the paper-towel and dry-brushes

the image was cropped and re-sized in the computer
